Usually not. Depending on your state, we may be able to use electronic signatures, mail you forms to sign, or ask for notarization. We'll explain exactly what's needed and provide the paperwork.
In many states, we'll simply send you title documents to complete allowing us to apply for a replacement title on your behalf.
If the registered owner is available and willing to sign (and in certain states to also notarize) the paperwork, we can usually proceed. We'll explain the requirements based on your state.
Often, yes. We may need a death certificate (depending on the state it may need to be an original) and other estate documents. We'll explain exactly what's needed and walk you through the paperwork.
Yes. In some states, a vehicle title is commonly referred to as a "pink slip." If you've lost your pink slip, don't worry—it doesn't automatically prevent you from donating your vehicle. Requirements vary by state, but our team will explain what's needed and guide you through the process.
Often, yes. If your loan has been paid in full but the lienholder was never removed from the title, our title team can usually help. We'll send you any necessary paperwork so we can apply for a replacement title, and we'll need a letter from the lienholder confirming that the loan has been satisfied. In some cases, we may even be able to help obtain that letter for you.
The tax deduction you can claim is based on the value or sale price of your vehicle, according to IRS rules:
- If your car sells for less than $500: You can claim the fair market value, up to $500.
- If your car sells for more than $500: You can claim the amount we sell your vehicle for.
Your tax-deductible receipt will reflect the correct amount once your vehicle is sold.
